A split in Westport, Ireland

While in Ireland in august 2000, my father saw in the town of Westport (Co. Mayo) a VW garage with a beetle and other cars cemetary. He shots some pictures and then while talking to the owner, he saw inside the garage a familiar shape covered with a sheet.

He was very surprised when the garagist took off the sheet to expose a 1953 De Luxe split!

She's in a very good original state, and looks like the one he had had in 1966.

Two VW in Larache and Rabat, Morocco

During a trip to Morocco in november 2000, I saw a lot of bay window microbus of which some were heavily loaded! They are used to transport goods and vegetables to the market in médinas, mainly in the region of Tanger. The microbus with the reversed VW logo comes from the village of Larache located on atlantic coast between Rabat and Tanger.

On the other hand, I saw only one beettle in spite of a 1200 km loop going from Rabat and passing by Tanger, Fès and Meknès. The last night in Rabat, the day before taking off to Paris, I was walking in the streets and then, just before going back to the hotel, I heard a familiar noise... It was a custom beetle, with Golf headlights, not of the better taste, but all the same, it's the only beetle I saw in Morocco in one week...

A "Bug's life" beetle, Ireland

In march 2001, in Dublin, I found per chance this advertising beetle for the movie "A bug's life" in a Ford garage.

A home-made camping-combi, Ireland

This Dutch split-window microbus was shot by my father in august 2001 in Donegal (Co. Donegal).

A Trabant in Berunes, Iceland

I found in september 1998 this Trabant in Berunes, a village on the east coast of Iceland. The Trabant model was build in Eastern Germany during the Berlin Wall period.

A 4fwd Tatra (or Lada ?) in Vladimir, Russia

My father found this "monstruous" 4fwd in Vladimir during a voyage in Russia in october 1990. It seems that it is a Tatra of which rounded forms certainly recall us of a VW beetle...
If you have any informations on this strange vehicule, don't hesitate to contact me.
