This beautiful but strange shape is a Boy
surface.
It was discovered by Verner Boy
in 1902, and for the first time analytically rendered by Jérôme
Souriau and Jean-Pierre Petit in 1981.
In "Le Topologicon" [Belin, 1988], a popularizing
scientific comics, Jean-Pierre Petit gives at the end
of the book the equations and the BASIC code to render it in
two dimensions.
In 1996 I used this code to produce a three
dimensionnal object of the Boy's surface. So, here are the
pictures rendered and the C sources that I wrote.
For all I know, the Boy's surface is the
transformation of a Möbius band...
